I’m Moving to Kazakhstan

Yes, you read that right. No, it’s not a joke. I am moving to Kazakhstan this summer.

I have been accepted by Princeton in Asia to teach English and hopefully some Economics at KIMEP University, which is, from what I have been told, the premier Business University in Kazakhstan.

A huge draw for me to apply for this experience was not only the job, which matches my academic passions, but also the geographic location: I’ll be surrounded by some huge mountains to the south. My brother Steve found a pretty amazing blog post featuring some of the mountains, click here or on the picture to see what I mean…

At this point, I believe I will be leaving the United States in mid- to late July, and will be in Kazakhstan for one calendar year. I am already planning to study Russian pretty intensively once I am finished with my ski competition season, and will do my best to keep in touch with you during the moving process.

(If you want shorter, more frequent updates, plus links to other random stuff related to skiing, economics, foreign policy, friends’ blogs and other stuff I think is rad, check me out on twitter @_jon_jay).
